Three of Swords

General

The Three of Swords symbolise heartbreak and heartache, and is often a card talking about breakups and the grief that comes. This card can represent sadness, loss and separation from the one that you love, or from the people that you love. It could also represent trauma and a lot of heavy energy. In traditional tarot, the Three of Swords is represented by a heart that has been pierced by three swords, and above it are grey clouds and rain. The image speaks for itself as this is the image of loss and grief and heartbreak.

Upright

In the upright position, the Three of Swords is about hurt and pain. The Three of Swords is often describing relationship issues such as break ups, divorce. Sometimes, the Three of Swords could represent infidelity or a third party coming into your relationship and messing things up. This card talks about conflict or separation, and in some cases, talk about loss or death. There is no other way of putting it but the Three of Swords is not a great card to get for love and relationships. In career and finances, this card could mean conflicts at work or feeling unappreciated or slighted at work. This could also mean a loss — a job loss or financial loss.

Reversed

In the Reversed position, the Three of Swords is a reminder that pain and grief are part and parcel of life, and it is from pain and grief that we learn some of our most important lessons. These lessons are not only about the situation that we are in, or the people we have dealt with, but about ourselves and our inner strength. This card reminds us, in the reversed position, that we are healing and everything will soon pass. Cycles will close out as we learn to heal and move forward. In love, the Three of Swords reversed could mean moving forward or moving on. This could mean that you walk away from the person that hurt you and seek out new beginnings. For others, this could mean forgiveness and reconciliation, but I usually feel it is more of a healing of the hurt in the past more so than reconciliation. In career and finances, this card is about putting conflicts behind and rebuilding oneself up again.
