Four of Swords

General

The Four of Swords is about rest and renewal. I do not necessarily see this as stagnation though sometimes, it can be perceived as such. This card talks about a period in your life where everything is on pause and the word ‘stillness’ is often used to describe the Four of Swords. The Four of Swords comes as a respite to the chaos and grief that was the Three of Swords. In traditional tarot, a knight lying on a tomb with three swords hanging above him whilst the fourth sword lies below him. This is a reminder of the pain endured during the Three of Swords and a signal that the emotional turmoil has ended and there is some peace and calm.

Upright

In the upright position, the Four of Swords talks about rest and retreat. This is often a card that talks about withdrawal and choosing to recharge and heal the wounds that was endured from the Three of Swords. This is often a card about disconnecting from the world and choosing to heal. In love, this could mean taking a break in your relationship. I do not see this as a permanent break up, this could sometimes mean that you and your partner need some time away from each other. This card can sometimes talk about withdrawing from social situations or not putting yourself out there so much because you need to heal and work on you first, especially if you have endured heartbreak and have been let down by suitors. In career and finances, this could mean taking a day off for yourself to rest and rejuvenate your spirits. This could also mean taking a vacation.

Reversed

In the reversed position, this card could mean that everything has come to a complete stop and the plans that you have made previously are unable to come to fruition. Sometimes, this card could be a reminder that you need a break from everything. In love, this could mean that you are reconnecting with your person and things are going to progress pretty well moving forward. I see this as a reconciliation after a break in your relationship. In career and finances, this card means that you are feeling refreshed after a period of rest or a period of vacationing and ready to take on the tasks and responsibilities that come with the job.
