Two of Swords

General

The Two of Swords often means that there is a choice to be made. It can sometimes represent stalemate or difficult choices that are presented before you. In traditional tarot, the Two of Swords is depicted by a woman that is blindfolded, holding a sword in each hand. In the background, there is a stormy sea. The woman being blindfolded represents her inability to see the situation clearly, and perhaps the problem and the solution are not within her sight. The two swords in her hands symbolise the two choices that lead to different outcomes.

Upright

In the upright position, the Two of Swords speaks about a situation where you or the person you are thinking about has to make a choice. There may be a stalemate at the moment and this choice is necessary in order to progress forward. The Two of Swords is also related to balance and partnerships and needing to find balance in your life. In love, this can sometimes mean that you and your person are well matched, you are both equals. This could mean that you may be choosing between two suitors, or perhaps choosing between focusing on love and another commitment. Or choosing to focus on one of your many commitments. In finances and career, the Two of Swords could represent choosing between a few career paths. Sometimes, this could mean having to take sides in the workplace. Other times, this may be an indication that you may be avoiding financial decisions.

Reversed

In the reversed position, the Two of Swords could mean that you may be stuck between a rock and a hard place. Like the upright meaning of this card, making a decision would mean progress for this situation, no matter how difficult the decision may be. In love, this could mean that there is no one that is right for you at the moment. This could also mean that you or the person you are thinking about is unwilling to backdown in an argument and admit that you are wrong. In career and finances, you could be competing with someone who has similar strengths and weaknesses as you, and you both are equally matched. This could also mean that you are not doing as much as you should to outsmart your competitor. This could also mean that you may be faced with the reality that the choices that you make will result in a lose-lose situation.
