The Star

General

In traditional tarot, the Star card shows a woman kneeling at the edge of a pond holding two containers of water. She is pouring water from one container onto the land and the other into the pond. She also has one foot in the water and one foot on the ground, representing how she is able to balance her spiritual abilities and her practical abilities. And very often, hope is the central meaning of the Star card. There is more to come, and the Star is telling you not to give up. And this is the interpretation I am taking for my deck – I wanted to capture the feeling you get when you open presents on Christmas morning, a mixture of anticipation and hope that you would get what you need (from the Universe).

Upright

In the upright position, the Star is about hope, renewed power and strength. The main message of the Star is to have faith as the Universe will bring you what you need and the Universe is blessing you with joy and abundance. Just be a little patient! In love, you are being reminded to be optimistic about your love life. There is a lot of healing from your past wounds and you are being asked to allow this new you to bring in love into your life. You are attracting the love that you want into your life and the Star is a reminder of that. In career and finances, there are a lot of career rewards coming in for you and there is reason to hope in your job. This is a card about you reaching your financial goals and remaining inspired as you reach these goals.

Reversed

Though the Star may be reversed, this does not mean all doom and gloom. I think this is all about mindset – things that you think would be easy does not seem to be as easy as they seem. This is the main message of the Star reversed. In love, this could mean that there are a lot of self limiting beliefs – perhaps there is a lack of self confidence or a loss of hope about love and romance. This could also mean that there is too much self-criticism or criticism against your partner. In career and finances, there may be a lack of motivation, a lack of enthusiasm and pessimism about work. You could be feeling quite hopeless about your financial situation and this is a sign that you can turn things around – it depends on you and your mindset on things.

Astrological Associations

The Star is associated with the star sign Aquarius. The symbol for Aquarius is the Water Bearer, symbolically and eternally giving life and spiritual food to the world. The water from the vessel washes away the past, leaving room for a fresh, new start. The sign of Aquarius is forward-looking and growth-oriented. Concerned with equality and individual freedom, Aquarius seeks to dispense its knowledge, and its vision of equality and individuality, to all. This is very much similar to the Star, and is definitely the meaning behind the traditional depiction of the Star in tarot.
