The High Priestess
General
The High Priestess is sometimes the embodiment of several archetypes – the goddesses Persephone, Artemis, Isis and other goddess. The High Priestess is about connectedness with the Universe and the Divine, and she represents intuition and psychic abilities. But the High Priestess is not someone who would reveal the future and/or the outcome to the querant, it’s more of a wait and see sort of card! As she represents inner knowledge and wisdom, she can be a reminder to listen to your intuition as you already know the answers.
The High Priestess is a great card to receive if you are asking about your journey to self discovery or your journey to developing your spirituality.
Upright
Honestly, the High Priestess is a card that has no positive or negative meanings, but we would try to categorise them.
If you are asking about career and finances, seeing the High Priestess may be about keeping your cards close to your chest. You may want to seek a mentor or be open to learning new things.
The High Priestess can be about using your intuition to your advantage, and use your foresight to plan your next moves.
Reversed
The High Priestess reversed could mean that you are denying your inner truth. Or it could mean that you lack the information needed and you may need to gather more information before making this decision or to embark on this new project.
In more negative readings, the High Priestess may symbolise infidelity in love and secrets kept between the both of you.
Astrological / Temporal Associations
Usually the crescent moon is at the High Priestess’ feet, and I have put the moon in the card as the moon represents our deepest desires, our unconscious/subconscious. This really highlights what the High Priestess represents as well. The moon is associated with the mother and with the feminine energy as well; it represents receptiveness and protection. The night time scene in the High Priestess is sometimes seen as going within to do our shadow work but you are not going through it alone, you are protected by the High Priestess and your inner goddess.
That’s all I have about the High Priestess, tune in next week for interpretations of the Empress!
