King of Swords

General

The King of Swords is an intelligent person and someone who is very much constantly operating their logical faculties. This person is someone who uses their brains and perhaps may be argumentative and loves to debate. But this person has a love of knowledge and understanding the world around them. In traditional tarot, the King of Swords sits on his throne and carries a sword. This sword represents intellectual prowess and clear thinking and truth. The butterflies on the back of his throne often represent change and transformation, signifying that the knowledge the King of Swords has allows for constant change and transformation.

Upright

In the upright position, the King of Swords is about being objective about the current situation. The King of Swords is an analytical person, this is someone who makes judgments based on facts and not emotions, and this could be advice that the King of Swords gives to the querent. In love, this could be indicative that one or both partners have high standards for love. There might be a lack of emotional connection in the relationship, or the emotions that are felt feel controlled. In career and finances, this could mean that there is a mentor in the work place who is intelligent and someone who will challenge you to do your best. It is possible that the querent should embody the characteristics of the King of Swords — to be disciplined and logical and clear about your goals.

Reversed

In the reversed position, the King of Swords is an abusive and manipulative person. This is someone who uses people as a means to an end and someone who pursues their own selfish desires. In love, this could mean that one or both parties are selfish, abusive or manipulative. The connection may be going through a rough patch or both parties are prone to overthinking and causing issues in the connection. This could speak of an emotionless partnership. In career and finances, this could mean that there are people in the workplace who are power hungry and would stop at nothing to achieve their goals. It is also possible that this person could be irrational and lack discipline as well (the complete opposite of the King of Swords in the upright position).
