Nine of Cups

General

The Nine of Cups is my wish fulfilment card, or the feeling that you get when your birthday wishes all come true. This is what I had in mind when I designed the card – of celebration, and making wishes which eventually do come true. The Nine of Cups is also about feeling content and satisfied with life. In traditional tarot, a man is depicted sitting amongst nine cups arranged neatly behind him. He is dressed well and looks quite content with his achievements and success. Similarly, the Nine of Cups is about achievement and finding pleasure or contentment in one’s achievements.

Upright

The Nine of Cups is quite similar to the Nine of Pentacles in the sense that it is about abundance but there is a sense of finding peace and satisfaction with this abundance that the Nine of Cups brings across which the Nine of Pentacles does not really do. But it’s a similar message. To me, the Nine of Cups comes after the hardship and struggles of the Eight of Cups, signalling that the achievement is well earned and it was not an easy journey to get there. It may have been an emotionally draining journey. In love, the Nine of Cups is about getting what you wished for from your person and your manifestations coming true. This is a wish fulfilment card, which means that if you wished for love, kids, family, marriage, this is all coming true for you. In career and finances, this could indicate a satisfying career and being recognised for your achievements. This could also indicate a period of financial security in your life.

Reversed

When the Nine of Cups is reversed, it may be time to reconsider what you truly want from life. In some depictions of the Nine of Cups, I get the message that you may be too much in your head, dreaming about a better future and not working for them. Other times, I feel that the Nine of Cups reversed indicates that you may be too easily content. In love, this could mean that the connection that you share may be a little lacking, it may be a little superficial. There may be a lack of emotions or love involved and it may be something that fizzles out quickly. In career and finances, it could be that the job was not what you thought it would be and you may not have met your expectations and goals. Or these goals may seem too lofty and idealistic.
