The Magician often symbolises self-mastery to me, it’s about learning to understand oneself and one’s abilities and to be able to harness this knowledge when working on projects.

This card is also about manifestations and seeing things through and turning dreams into reality.

There is plenty in the symbolism of the Magician card – the figure of the Magician in traditional tarot points to the sky and to the ground, which symbolises the phrase “as above, so below”, which also means that the outer world reflects within. There are so many interpretations, and good food for thought! On his table, the Magician has the four elements on his desk – earth, air, fire and water—symbolising his connection to the four elements. In addition, he has the infinity sign on his head, indicating the infinite possibilities of creation with the will.

Upright

Receiving the Magician during a reading could mean that you are being asked to harness the powers of the Magician to create opportunities for yourself in terms of love and career. The Magician could also mean that this could also be the start of something new and that you are to use your willpower in order to achieve your goals.

When you receive the Magician, it could mean that you have what it takes to achieve your goals, despite what you believe.

Reversed

But when you get the Magician reversed, it could be that someone is trying to pull wool over your eyes, or deceive you. The Magician can also represent someone whois out for themselves and who may use you as a means to an end, and will not have any qualms about cutting you off after they are done getting what they need from you.  

Astrological / Temporal Associations

The Magician is usually associated with Mercury, who is the messenger in Astrology. Mercury represents coordination and thought processes and ideas. Sometimes, Mercury traits include analyzing and sorting things out into groups. And Magician represents these traits as well.
