Queen of Cups

General

The Queen of Cups represents a person, usually a woman, who is loving, compassionate and kind. She is often a motherly figure or someone who is supportive. She is also often someone who is spiritual and intuitive. To me, she represents understanding the unconscious mind and healing. In traditional tarot, the Queen of Cups sits on her throne by the water and her position between land and sea is seen to be a place where the conscious and unconscious/thought and feeling exists. The world around her is calm and she’s deep in thought, which allows her to understand her emotional world.

Upright

In the upright position, the Queen of Cups is about tapping into your heart space and intuition. She’s a powerful woman, someone who is incredibly intuitive and she uses that to guide her path forward. She’s also someone who practices self-love and this gives her the ability to be compassionate and loving towards others. In love, the Queen of Cups is always a positive card to get because she symbolises love and that love is present in your connection. It is possible, especially when paired with the King of Cups, that she represents marriage and commitment. The Queen of Cups represents deepening bonds and someone who is attractive to others because of their personality. In finances and career, the Queen of Cups is about feeling strongly about the work that you do. You may be in a job where you care for others or you simply are the “mother hen” in your work place. The Queen of Cups is also about generosity and charity, and being able to give financially to the needy.

Reversed

In the reversed position, the Queen of Cups may be someone who is cut off from their emotions, perhaps someone who is a little irrational. The Queen of Cups reversed may be someone who likes attention, like an emotional vampire, and could be someone who is melodramatic. In love, she represents dependency or co-dependency. It is possible that there is an imbalance in the connection and someone is giving too much and the other is taking and taking. This could also represent someone overly sensitive and the other party has to walk on egg shells in order to please their partner. The Queen of Cups can be a reminder that you cannot love someone into loving you or respecting you and perhaps you may be ignoring the warning signs. In finances and career, I see the Queen of Cups as having a lot of love for the work that you do but it is not giving you the financial rewards that you are hoping to receive. Receiving this card could also mean that you are emotionally drained at work or you have been neglecting yourself.
