The Empress

General

The Empress is the Divine Feminine, and she is often associated with pregnancy and births as she is seen as the Earth Mother or a goddess of fertility. Sometimes, the Empress is an indication that we have to tune into our inner feminine in order to solve a problem before us. But this pregnancy and birth association could be that you or the querant will be birthing an idea or a project.

The Empress is about abundance and is reassuring you that your worries are for nothing as you would be bringing in abundance into your life.

Upright

The Empress in any sort of reading is always a good sign – if you are asking whether you would be in a relationship, the answer is a yes. And you would be entering into a nurturing and committed relationship with someone who is supportive and kind.

The Empress also indicates success in the work place as you may meet mentors in the workplace. And because the Empress is about abundance, it is likely that you would be bringing in financial abundance. And for others you would be able to turn your ideas into concrete projects.

Reversed

The Empress is not usually a negative card, but when it shows up with other negative cards or when it shows up reversed, it is likely that you need to work on self care a little more. It is also likely that you have a lack of self love and this is draining the relationships you are in. It could be that you may be feeling insecure about your position at work or about finances, or things may not be going as well as you might hope.

Astrological / Temporal Associations

As explained in the High Priestess card, the moon represents the mother and feminine energy. The protective and receptive energies of the Moon are embodied by the Empress. Thus, the moon features behind the Empress to emphasize these traits in the Empress.

The Empress is also represented by Venus, who is the Goddess of Love. Venus rules grace, charm, beauty and shows us how we spend our money. But this also means that we have money to spend and an abundance of charm and beauty, which is what the Empress embodies. The Empress embodies abundance and is an amazing card to get in any reading.
