Seven of Cups

General

To me, the Seven of Cups represents choices and plenty of options in front of you. Sometimes, this could mean plenty of responsibilities and biting off more than you can chew. Whenever I see the Seven of Cups, I get an overwhelmed energy because there is just too much going on. The Seven of Cups can sometimes mean delusions and fantasy, perhaps looking at reality, the future or the past through rose tinted glasses and making it seem better than it actually is. There is an element of wishful thinking as well, and in traditional tarot, there are numerous fantasies appearing from the cups.

Upright

When the Seven of Cups appears, I usually think about what needs to be grounded in reality. There is a need to be practical with what you are being faced with, and to chart out the best possible path, and this can be done by being seeking clarity. In love, this card can talk about how the fate of your connection is in you and/or your partner’s hands. This talks about choices causing this connection to make or break. It can also talk about daydreams, and not being in the real world, or having unrealistic expectations of someone that you love. This card can also mean choices in love – perhaps there are others vying for your person’s attention, or vice versa. In career and finances, this could mean having options in your career path or several financial opportunities opening up. The main message here is not to allow yourself to delude yourself into thinking something is way better than it actually is, stay grounded and always look at things from an objective point of view.

Reversed

In the reversed position, the Seven of Cups can talk about illusions and temptations. This could mean that you may be tempted to escape reality by daydreaming about life, and it could also indicate confusion as a result of wanting to stay in a fantasy world. In love, this could mean that there is chaos and confusion in your love life. This could also mean avoiding decisions about one’s love life. At the same time, depending on the cards surrounding it, the Seven of Cups could mean the fog lifting and you are able to move forward with clarity. Or a decision has been made. In career and finances. This could mean a lack of career options or missed opportunities. This could also mean a tunnel vision when it comes to carer and finances or a distraction from one’s financial goals.
