Four of Cups
General
The Four of Cups represents boredom or an inability to be open to the blessings that want to come into your life. I usually see the Four of Cups as someone who is closed off and discontent with their lives at the moment. In traditional tarot, a young man is sitting under a tree in contemplation. A cup is being offered to him, but he is not paying attention to it. In front of him are three cups laying on the grass. He does not notice the blessings that is in front of him, almost as if he is taking for granted the things that he has right now.
Upright
In the upright position, the Four of Cups tends to appear when you are feeling quite bored or disillusioned. This could also be when you are feeling discouraged or unmotivated. It could be that you feel there is no way forward and life has become quite stagnant. In love, someone (you or your person) could be bored with love, and there is a lack of excitement. It could be that one or both of you are not open to working things out because you fail to see what is worth fighting for in this relationship anymore. In career and finances, you could be feeling quite unhappy with your current position or there could be a lack of progress, leading to boredom. It is possible that you could be comparing yourself to others and their financial positions instead of being happy with what you have right now.
Reversed
When the Four of Cups is in the reversed position, this could have a more positive take to your situation or the situation that you are enquiring about. The Four of Cups could mean that you may be more active in your life, like you are taking a front seat in your life and you may be understanding that while life is not perfect, you are going to make the best of it. In love, this could mean that you have reached a new understanding in love, there has been a few breakthroughs for you, and you are starting to reorient yourself and change your expectations in order to make this relationship succeed. In career and finances, you could be getting new inspiration or creativity. It could also mean that you may be making career or financial adjustments and this is for the better.
